Hahnemühle papers: matt, baryta and Fine Art
From matt surfaces to baryta papers, Hahnemühle offers different ways to give an image presence. Here are the references and ranges discussed by the studio.
Photo Matt Fibre 200
This 200 g/m² matt paper is made from alpha-cellulose. Its natural white and lightly textured surface give a soft appearance. It suits images where you want a subtle tactile quality without glossy reflections. Although its name includes “Fibre”, it is not a 100% cotton paper.
FineArt Baryta 325
The 325 g/m² FineArt Baryta is also made from alpha-cellulose. Its bright white, felted texture and high-gloss surface give it a strong presence. It can suit colour or black-and-white photographs that need contrast and detail. Do not confuse it with Photo Rag Baryta, which is a different product.
Pearl surfaces
“Hahnemühle pearl” describes a finish without identifying one particular paper. Photo Pearl, FineArt Pearl and Photo Rag Pearl are separate ranges. We choose the exact paper from a sample: feel, whiteness, fibres and weight vary between products.
Bamboo, agave and hemp
These fibres are used in Natural Line papers. Consider how they work with your image: texture, base tone and relationship to the subject. Availability and compatibility with a Digigraphie edition must be confirmed before production. A brand or fibre alone does not guarantee compatibility.
How to choose
For a soft photograph, start by comparing a natural-white matt paper with a brighter surface. For an image rich in blacks, consider baryta too. We help you assess highlights, shadows and fine details on a sample or proof.
Your questions
Are all Hahnemühle papers free of optical brighteners?
No: check each product’s specifications. A property of one paper should not be applied to the entire brand.
Is a Hahnemühle certificate the Digigraphie label?
No. A certificate of authenticity and the Digigraphie protocol serve different purposes.
